The Supreme Court has granted six-week protection from arrest to Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa in a sexual harassment case.

The apex court has asked Madurai bench of Madras High Court to decide her anticipatory bail plea uninfluenced by its order.

The Delhi High Court had last week granted interim protection from arrest to the expelled AIADMK MP and two of her family members till August 22, who face charges of harassment by their domestic help.

The court had told the Tamil Nadu government that no coercive action is to be taken against Pushpa and her kin until August 22 while she explores her legal remedies. The DHC had also said that Pushpa and her accused family members have to approach the concerned court for further remedies like regular bail.

A harassment complaint had been lodged by Pushpa's maid against her, her husband, her mother and her son. The domestic servants, who reportedly worked at Pushpa's house in Tamil Nadu, had filed a police complaint alleging that they were tortured by them.

Pushpa was expelled from AIADMK by party supremo Jayalalithaa on August 1 for "bringing disrepute to the party".
