Jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala's husband M Natarajan died in a private hospital in Chennai where he was admitted after complaining of chest pain.

In a statement, the Gleneagles Global Health City hospital where Natarajan was admitted, said, "It is with profound grief and sorrow that we announce the sad demise of Natarajan Maruthappa at 1.35 am today (20.3.2018). Every possible clinical attempt was made to sustain his revival. However, despite our best efforts he was unable to recover."

The 74-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit, Gleneagles Global hospital on March 16 with severe chest infection and was on put on ventilator support. He underwent tracheostomy on Monday.

Sasikala, serving a four-year imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case in the central prison in Bengaluru, had visited her husband after obtaining emergency parole last year. Sasikala's nephew TTV Dinakaran said that her lawyer has gone to Bengaluru to make arrangements for her release under parole to visit her husband.

Last year, Natarajan underwent liver and kidney transplant after he received the organs from a-19-year-old daily wager who was declared brain dead after being flow to Chennai in an air ambulance on Monday night from Thanjavur Government Medical College hospital.

However, the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit on Thursday sought a probe into the organ transplant procedure of M Natarajan — husband of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala — following allegations of Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (Transtan) rules violations.

"Many organ transplant rules were flouted for his (Natarajan) organ transplantation. There are many questions. How was a poor youth brought to a corporate hospital? Who paid for him?" BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said.
