Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh's long drawn monotonous reply to the debate on agrarian crisis led to interesting scenes in the Rajya Sabha when even Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien warned him to cut short or else "he would be forced to adjourn the house."

The minister was giving elaborate details of measures taken by the Modi government in the agriculture sector during last three years, and had already spoken for about an hour when Kurien asked him how many more minutes he would take to conclude.
There was no answer to this question from the minister and he continued. By the time Singh crossed one hour and 15 minutes, all the Opposition members left the House.
When despite repeated requests to end the reply, Singh kept on speaking, Kurien said, "Hon. Minister, there should be propriety. You cannot go on like this. It is already one hour and ten minutes. I will have to say, 'Nothing will go on record' and you should not make me do that." But the warning didn't seem to have any impact. Kurien again said, "What is this? It is a matter of half-an-hour reply. The concerns should be addressed. What is the need of expressing all these?"
But unmindful, Singh went on and on. To this a hapless Kurien said, "There is another Bill. I don't mind, I will adjourn the House after this."
Singh then said he was trying to explain the work done by his ministry and the government for the farmers. Sensing that the deputy chairman was serious, a BJP member went to Singh and whispered him to complete his reply. As soon as the minister finished, all the opposition members entered the House again.
