West Bengal's Advocate-General Jayanta Mitra on Tuesday resigned following difference of opinion with the state government.
He tendered his resignation to Governor KN Tripathi. "I sent my resignation to the Governor this afternoon," Mitra told PTI here. On being asked about the reason for his resignation, he said, "I was having difference of opinion with the state government on certain issues." "My job is to plead the cases in the best interest of the state and I have done so during my tenure," Mitra added.
Additional advocate general Laksmi Gupta has also laid down his paper. Speaking to Zee 24 Ghanta, he said that the entire process is a team work and if one person resigns, the entire team has to go.
Jayanta Mitra is third advocate general who gave in his paper during the Mamata rule. Jayanta Mitra was appointed in December 2014 after former Advocate General Bimal Chatterjee resigned.
