Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena leader Diwakar Raote today said in view of the deficient rains in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, he has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking financial assistance for the farmers.

"Farmers in Marathwada and Vidarbha are suffering due to insufficient rains. I have written a letter to the chief minister on behalf of Shiv Sena, in which I have sought financial assistance for these farmers," he said.

He said he would raise the farmers' issue in the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Raote was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with Shiv Sena office-bearers in the city.

The state transport minister also alleged that the benefits of the loan waiver scheme announced by the state government were yet to reach the farmers.

"The drought-like conditions in Marathwada and Vidarbha have increased the woes of the farmers. Therefore, I have sent a letter to the chief minister so that the government comes forward to help the cultivators," he said.

On a query related to the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation polls, in which BJP today won 61 of 95 seats, trouncing bickering ally Shiv Sena and the opposition Congress and NCP, Raote said his party will "fight back".

"The Marathas had lost the battle of Panipat, but after that they won the country. Victories and defeats are part of the process and Shiv Sena will fight back," he said.

He also said that the Sena has decided to fight and win the future elections on its own.
