The proceedings in the Rajasthan assembly were adjourned for 45 minutes soon after the Zero Hour commenced today amid uproar over a National People's Party (NPP) MLA's allegation that he was not being given time to speak.
When Speaker Kailash Meghwal named Congress MLA Shakuntala Rawat to speak, NPP legislator Kirori Lal Meena and his wife Golma Devi stood up. Meena claimed that despite giving notice four times for permission to speak, he was being not given a chance.
Amid uproar, the Speaker adjourned the house till 1 PM.
Speaking to mediapersons outside the House, he alleged that his voice was being "suppressed" as he targeted the BJP government.
Meena said during the Congress regime in Rajasthan, the Zamindara Party had donated Rs 10 crore for sewerage work in Sriganganagar in which the state government had a 50 per cent share.
"The previous government had done the ground breaking ceremony and 70 per cent work on the project was completed.
After the BJP government came into power, it returned Rs 11.79 crore, the donated money along with with its interest, to the Zamindara Party president B D Agarwal personally," he alleged.
"It was done by the ruling government to buy votes of the Zamindara Party for two seats in Rajya Sabha," he added.
"I was trying to raise the issue in the House but Speaker under the pressure of government did not give me time. Earlier also, I tried raising issues related to forest and mines but despite prior notice I was not allowed," said Meena after the House was adjourned.
The MLA from Lasot seat in Dausa claimed that the Sriganganagar Nagar Parishad board had opposed the government's move to return the donated money.
"The matter was then brought to Jaipur and under the pressure, the money was returned," alleged Meena.
Congress members including Govind Singh Dotasara, independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal also supported Meena.
Meena told reporters that an RTI activist has lodged a case in Kotwali police station in Sriganganagar.
