Railway unions today alleged encroachment on their rights by the ministry which has debarred the supervisory staff from becoming office-bearers and threatened to launch an agitation if it is not withdrawn.

The railways has recently issued an order which debars supervisory staff belonging to safety category from becoming office-bearers of unions.

Describing the order as "anti-labour", All-India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said, "The railway ministry is directly interfering in the functioning of trade unions which will not be tolerated." AIRF along with the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen have demanded for withdrawal of the order and threatened to launch agitation in case it is not done.
