A day after the mastermind of Nabha Jailbreak case was arrested from Moga, Punjab Police will seek a red corner notice to extradite a Singapore resident, Romi who had allegedly helped the gangsters escape prison.

The incident took place on November 27, when gangsters Amandeep Dhothian, Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Sekhon and Neeta Deol escaped along with Khalistani terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo and Kashmir Singh from Nabha jail after armed men in police uniform tricked the sentries into opening the gates.

While Khalistan Liberation Force chief Mintoo was nabbed from Delhi and gangster Neeta Deol was arrested from Indore days after the incident, mastermind Gurpreet Sekhon was arrested from Dhudike village in Moga on Sunday. The operation was carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Punjab police.

Speaking at a press conference, here in Patiala, DIG Patial Ashish Choudhary said that a Singapore resident, Romi's name had figured during the interrogation of the accused.

Highlighting that Romi had allegedly played the role of a 'control room', Choudhary said he remained in contact with the gangsters after they escaped and guided them about their movements.

"Romi was lodged in Nabha jail after he was arrested for a credit card fraud. He was released after serving his sentence, but remained in contact with Sekhon whom he had met in the jail. He used to send them money, with which they bought weapons to carry out the jail break. After successfully escaping the jail on November 27, Romi continued to send them money," said Choudhary.

Sekhon was allegedly planning to fly to Singapore but his plan got delayed after the Singapore government introduced certain change in the visa policy.

According to police, the gangsters were alerted about the police presence in Haryana and decided to move in different directions from there. They decided not to contact each other or disclose each other's location, but remained in contact with Romi in Singapore.

"Romi acted as the control room, as they would individually contact him and he would guide them about their locations. Sekhon was alerted about accomplice Neetu's arrest in Indora in Madhya Pradesh," said Choudhary.

Police has also recovered five fire arms including .32 pistol, ammunition, 15 fake IDs and a stolen Verna car from the accused.
