Pune Ganesh mandals served notice

As many as 35 Ganesh mandals in Pune have received notices for allegedly flouting noise pollution norms during the Ganesh festival in 2016.

Sources claimed that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board issued these notices to the Pune mandals, including those that are considered prestigious and hence get priority over others during the long immersion procession in Pune that often goes beyond 16-18 hours. The immersion procession on the 11th day in Pune is one of the longest and noisiest as several mandals engage dhol bands that not only slow down the procession, but also lead to severe noise pollution.

The notices have been slapped just a couple of months ahead of this year's Ganesh festival which has made the mandals redraw their plans.
