Three days after Haryana BJP President’s son was booked for stalking a bureaucrat’s daughter in Chandigarh, a CCTV footage showing a white SUV, reportedly being driven by the accused, chasing the complainant’s car, has emerged.

Recorded at 12.32 am on August 4, the CCTV footage shows a white SUV following the complainant’s car as it passes from Sector 7. She had made a call to the PCR in this regard at 12.35 am. The vehicle numbers are not visible.

The Chandigarh Police said they have still not accessed the footage, which belongs to private persons.

In a Facebook post the survivor wrote that Haryana BJP President Subhash Barala’s son Vikas Barala and his friend chased her in an inebriated condition and tried to kidnap her. They were arrested for stalking and drunken driving.

However, they were bailed out within hours. “We have not shared any CCTV footage. But we can assure that we have retrieved the footage from five CCTV cameras on the mapped route and it is being analysed,” SSP Eish Singhal told DNA, refusing to comment on this footage that has now surfaced.

His statement, however, is a complete U-turn as earlier the cops had stated that no CCTV footage of the incident was available because most cameras on the route were non-functional.  Meanwhile, amid a tirade of criticism, Haryana BJP President Barala has said that the victim was like his daughter. “Vikas and Ashish (accused), dono par niyamanusaar karyawahi honi chahiye. She is like my daughter. The party supports freedom of women. Neither I nor the BJP has put any kind of pressure on anyone and it will not do so in future,” he said.

A day after a BJP leader faced backlash for questioning why she was out so late, the party sought to distance itself from the case, terming it an individual incident pertaining to Chandigarh. “Both are our children and the matter will be decided as per law,” Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said.

Besides, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a report from the UT administration on the incident. “The action taken report on the case has been submitted,” a senior official said.

As police battles allegations of dropping kidnapping charges against the influential accused, Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher said: “Kidnapping charge was not added as the victim has not alleged kidnapping in her statement before the magistrate. If she makes a request to record her statement again, the police can take suo moto action and invoke further Sections.”
