Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today told the State Legislative Assembly that the pre-construction work on the airport at Mopa in North Goa has started.

"GMR- Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) has already started pre-construction work and as per Concession Agreement GGIAL has to complete construction by May 2020," Parrikar said.

"As per Concession Agreement the estimated cost of Phase one of the project is Rs 3,100 crore. However, as per financial close documents of GMR Goa International Airport Limited estimated cost of Phase I of the project is Rs 1,900 crore," the Chief Minister said.

He was replying to the question tabled by Congress MLAs Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco and Dayanand Sopte.

Replying to another question tabled by BJP MLA Rajesh Patnekar, Parrikar said, "The construction work (for the project) is expected to begin shortly".
