Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that after the party broke its alliance with the BJP as the Prime Minister’s Office had opened a new channel of communication with MPs from YSR Congress.

“They (the BJP) have no presence in Andhra Pradesh and want to get some support there. So what’s the feeling of BJP — the YSR Congress in an alternative. Their MPs are in constant touch with the Prime Minister’s Office. These MPs, mired in a CBI case, are in the court every Friday. The PMO is now giving them access, that is not correct,” said Naidu, while speaking to reporters at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.

"People of Andhra Pradesh continue to feel betrayed. But why can't the present government have a review? Appoint JPC and tell them to have a look into the issue," he said.

Armed with a power point presentation, figures, and even videos of PM Modi’s pre-poll promises, Naidu said that the 5 crore people of the state feel betrayed. “They have given special status in spite of 14th Finance Commission to 11 states. Then why not to Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu said.

Accusing PM Modi of mudslinging him over the issue, Naidu said that till now the Centre has released only Rs 3,500 crores, and if PM Modi had kept his promise, Naidu would have saved over Rs 3000-5000 crore by now.

He said that despite a healthy growth rate, 10.5% which was one of the highest in the country, the per capita income in Andhra Pradesh has been lower than other states in south India.

“Our per capita income was Rs 89,214 before the bifurcation, and it fell down to Rs 82,870 after the bifurcation,” he said. He also handed out to scribes a 100-page document that listed several figures.

Earlier in the day, Naidu met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to consolidate a coalition. On Tuesday, landing at the Parliament for the first time the TDP broke away from the NDA, Naidu met a wide range of political leaders from the Opposition as well as leaders from NDA allies in the Central Hall and at the TDP office.

These included Shiromani Akali Dal’s Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Nationalist Congress Party’s Sharad Pawar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, TMC leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Derek O’Brien, Congress leaders Veerappa Moily and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Apart from that, some of the BJP leaders who he met were senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi and and expelled BJP MP Kirti Azad. He also met Hema Malini and union minister Jayant Sinha. He also met with leaders from the Shiv Sena, AIADMK, DMK, etc.

Naidu’s visit, coming barely a week after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee similarly met leaders in the Parliament, is seen as a bid to project himself as a larger deal in the Opposition. He, however, said that his visit was to garner more support for the no-confidence motion the party has filed against the Centre.
