Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra today instructed civil surgeons to personally visit the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in their respective areas to gauge the anomalies plaguing them.

"Civil surgeons will thereupon put up the detailed reports, clearly listing out the anomalies and suggestions for streamlining the functioning of these centres," he said here.

He emphasised that stomping out all forms of drug usage from the state was a priority for the Congress-led Punjab government.

The civil surgeons would spearhead campaigns against drug addiction and have been instructed to personally check all the de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, the minister said.

Mohindra said if the management of any of the de-addiction centres was found guilty of non-compliance of set rules, it would be taken to task.

Castigating the SAD-BJP combine, the state Health Minister said the previous dispensation was only paying lip service to eradicating the drug menace from the state.

"It is evident from the fact that many of their leaders are facing legal trials for being a party in promoting drug trade," he said.

The minister said that he has been monitoring the working of the de-addiction centres on a daily basis and serious anomalies have been brought to his notice.

He also appealed all social organisations and NGOs to come forward and fight the war against drugs unitedly.
