In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself while chatting with his girlfriend on a live WhatsApp video call in Patna on Monday.
Akash Kumar, 19, shot himself in the head using a country-made semi-automatic pistol inside his residence at Saichak under Beur police station, a Times of India report said.
The youth had failed in intermediate examination last year and was also under pressure from his family to end the relationship.
The incident took place at around 3 am when Akash was alone at his residence and was on a WhatsApp video call with his girlfriend, police said. The girl lives in Mahavir Colony in the city and is a class-IX student.
"The girl told police that Akash cocked pistol at the live video chat on which she asked him to remove the pistol and take out the magazine," police said.
"Keeping the cellphone on his legs covered with a blanket, the youth shot himself while resting on his back on the bed," sources said.
When Akash stopped responding on the video call, the girl then called up his cousin. The cousin, Chandan Kumar, somehow gained entry through terrace at 5 am after which the police were informed.
A 9mm country-made pistol, a loaded magazine, a pellet and the cellphone through which Akash was chatting with his girlfriend was seized from the spot.
His body was handed over to family members after an autopsy.
The TOI report said the Akash's father was against his relationship with the girl and was putting pressure on to marry soon. The father had scolded Akash a couple of days back using foul words over the marriage issue.
"Akash narrated everything on chat to his girlfriend after which he requested her to come live on video call expressing wish to see her for one last time," sources said.
The police have recorded girl's statement who confirmed the youth committed suicide while chatting with her on live video, Beur police station SHO Alok Kumar said.
