Parents of a newborn, who was allegedly stolen from a government hospital here last month, today staged a sit-in in front of the Chief District Medical Officer's office demanding steps to get their baby back.

I want my son who was stolen from the hospital. I am not going to leave this place until I get back my baby, mother of the baby Geetanjali Majhi said.

The baby was allegedly stolen by an unidentified person from the gynaecology ward of the district headquarters hospital in the early hours on March 24, a day after he was born.

The Sambalpur police formed special squads to trace the baby but their effort was yet to yield fruit, the police said.

Aniruddha Majhi, father of the baby, said that 25 days had elapsed since the newborn was stolen and that his wife was spending sleepless nights.

CDMO Kodanda Rao said he had discussed the matter with the superintendent of police.

"The police has formed special squads to trcace the baby. We are hopeful that they will succeed in their efforts," Rao said.
