Heavy rains continue to lash many parched districts of Marathwada.

In Beed district, all dams and reservoirs are overflowing. The Bindusasra Dam, which has been dry for seven years, is now overflowing, as is the Majalgaon Dam. Many villages are under water due to the floods. People have been safely evacuated and two NDRF teams are in the area to handle flood-related rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

A similar situation prevails in Osmanabad district. People have been told that the Manjara Dam is likely to overflow tonight due to heavy rains and to make arrangements to move to safer havens. As per an Indian Express report, 17 medium-sized dams and 90 smaller projects in Osmanabad are now overflowing.  Lower Terna (4 TMC capacity) and Sena Kolegaon (5 TMC), the key dams for the region, are also filling up fast.

In Kolhapur district, the Radhanagari and Kalammawadi Dams are also overflowing.

In the Konkan region, the flood situation is under control in Sindudurg district. Many areas of the Konkan have received 100 mm plus rainfall. Rainfall also hit some parts of Vidarbha. Heavy rains continued in Amravati and Chandrapur districts, affecting the Rabi crop. The met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Vidarbha in the next 24 hours.

Six doors of Manjra Dam in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra were opened this morning.  The engineer informed that 250 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.

Villagers residing near the bank of the river has been alerted.

In Nanded, nine doors of Vishnupuri Dam have also been opened and 3,393 cusecs of water is being released. Villagers residing near Godavari Bank have been alerted.

After almost six years, the water woes of Marathwada in Maharashtra seems to be over as the rain this year has helped the region to restore the water level in the reservoirs.

This year special arrangements had been made to supply water to Latur which was facing severe water crisis.

Water was supplied by water trains to Latur during summer. But the rain in last week has helped Marathwada to get the sigh of relief at least for this year.
