Ahead of the National Security Advisor (NSA)-level talks between India and Pakistan, key BJP ally Shiv Sena has expressed apprehensions at the two nations smoking the peace pipe when the country continues to be needled by its neighbor. The Shiv Sena, which is part of the BJP-led governments in the Centre and the state, has likened this to "feeding milk to a snake" and charged that "Pakistan will never improve."

The NSA-level talks are already in rocky waters due to Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz's plan to meet Kashmir separatists in New Delhi despite India's opposition. Aziz is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on Sunday and Monday.

"Talk how much you want to. (This is like) feeding milk to a snake. Pakistan will never improve," said Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai and spokesperson Arvind Sawant on Friday. Sawant noted that Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray had earlier expressed his opposition to talks with Pakistan and this stance continued even today.

He pointed out that when India took steps to ensure peace and entered into talks, Pakistan reciprocated with actions like infiltration of forces into Kargil and said there was no point in "shaking hands which were stained with the blood of our soldiers."

Sawant, who was speaking at an interaction with the media, said that it was necessary to incorporate the consent and social impact assessment clauses in the proposed land acquisition bill. He added that since a majority of farmers had marginal land holdings, alienation from their farm steads would create problems in their livelihoods.

He added that "since bad things had stopped, this was the beginning of acche din" and added that corruption was on the decline.
