Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian forward posts and civilian areas, killing a 28-year-old man and injuring three others along the international border (IB) in Jammu division on Tuesday.
The man was killed when he was caught in the cross-border shelling in Hamirpur Kona village in Akhnoor sector. Three others, including a BSF jawan, were also injured in Akhnoor and RS Pora sectors. Five houses were damaged while some cattle also sustained injuries in the shelling.

"There is one casualty in Hamirpur Kona village in Akhnoor sector. A 28-year-old youth was hit and he succumbed to his injuries on his way to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu. Two civilians and a BSF jawan also suffered injuries. One of the civilians got injured in RS Pora sector," Simrandeep Singh, district development commissioner Jammu, told dna.

Jammu and Kashmir government has issued an advisory to the locals living near the IB to remain indoors in a bid to ensure their safety during cross-border shelling. "People have been advised to stay indoors. We have not set up any shelter camps for the people so far because we are still waiting and watching," said Singh.

Pakistani Rangers resorted to heavy firing on Indian forward posts along the International Border (IB) since early morning after Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid in the Pargwal sector.

Pakistan Rangers first used small arms and then fired heavy mortar shell targeting around 12 border outposts (BOPs) in Kanachak and Pargwal sectors in Akhnoor area of Jammu division. Later they extend firing to RS Pora using 81 mortars to hit at Indian posts and civilian areas.

"Two terrorists were seen moving suspiciously close to IB behind thick sarkanda and undulating ground opposite Kanachak area. They were waiting to infiltrate or snipe to kill the BSF person in the forward area. BSF troops fired on their suspicious movement in early morning. Pakistani Rangers started shelling and firing which spread and affected 12 to 13 BOPs in Kanachak and Paragwal sectors," said a BSF spokesman at Jammu.

BSF troops retaliated effectively to silence the guns of Pakistani Rangers. "The way they fired heavily confirm the active support of Pakistan Rangers to these terrorists. Cross-border fire slowly shifted to RS Pura sector.

Pakistan is firing 81 mortars at the regular intervals," he said.

This is the second ceasefire violation by Pakistani Rangers in the last 24 hours. Pakistan has violated ceasefire eight times since August 1 in Jammu.

The ceasefire violations have come at a time when there is a likelihood of NSA-level talks between the two countries later this month. The talks were agreed upon in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Ufa Russia.
