Over Rs 4,000 crore electricity bill payment remains to be recovered from different consumers in Chhattisgarh, of which industries have an outstanding of Rs 23768.81 lakh, the Assembly was informed today.

An amount of Rs 304925.94 lakh is due to be collected from government departments.

In a written reply to a query of an independent MLA Vimal Chopda, Chief Minister Raman Singh said, "electricity bills worth Rs 4195.80 crore is to be recovered from power consumers -- industrial, non domestic/commercial, government, civic bodies, domestic and agriculture sectors, in the state as on January 2017."

"As on January 31, 2017, the state has 284 power consumers who have more than Rs 10 lakh worth pending electricity bills," he said.

As per the reply, government (departments) category tops the list with Rs 304925.94 lakh outstanding of electricity bills.

In the same way, civic bodies had not cleared the electricity bills to the tune of Rs 40115.27 lakh.

Industrial consumers have dues pending against them to the tune of Rs 23768.81 lakh.

The reply further added that Rs 6207.44 lakh is to be recovered from non domestic/commercial consumers, Rs 40097.82 lakh from domestic consumers and Rs 4465 lakh from agriculture consumers.

Of the 27 districts of the state, the naxal-affected Dantewada district accounts for maximum chunk of the total dues to be recovered - Rs 100713.75 lakh whereas Raipur district has an outstanding of Rs 44863.46 lakh.

There is no provision to provide rebate on due electricity bills.

But, the facility of relaxation was being provided subject to terms and conditions under the one-time payment scheme to recover outstanding electricity bills from those power connections disconnected permanently (from November 12, 2016 till March 31, 2017), after implementing the scheme during National Lok Adalat held on November 12, 2016, the reply said.
