Ceasefire violation by Pakistan: Soldier injured in Sunderbani sector succumbs to injuries

A soldier wounded in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Havildar Charanjeet Singh on Tuesday suffered bullet injuries during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Indian Army posts in Jammu and Kashmir's Sunderbani sector. He was immediately taken to the Military Hospital and was provided intensive medical care.

However, despite all efforts made by the doctors, Singh succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Friday morning.

Singh, who hails from Kalsian village in Rajouri district, is survived by his wife Neelam Kumari. The mortal remains of Singh will be brought to his native village to bid farewell to the soldier with full military honours.

Official figures revealed that 633 ceasefire violations were recorded along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir in first two months of 2018. Of these, 432 incidents were reported from the Line of Control and 201 on the International Border. Ten security personnel and 12 civilians were killed in these violations.

Last year, there were 860 ceasefire violations along the LoC and 111 incidents on the International Border. Twelve 12 civilians were killed and 59 others were injured in these incidents in 2017. Six Army personnel and four BSF men were also killed and 18 army soldiers and 22 BSF jawans were injured in these incidents.

The highest number of such violations took place in 2002, when 8,376 incidents were reported, while 2,045 incidents of ceasefire violations were reported in 2003.

The ceasefire between India and Pakistan along the LoC and the IB in J&K came into force in November 2003.
