For the first time, former chief minister and National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah has left his comfort zone and hit streets in historic Lal Chowk to protest against Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Thousands of NC supporters marched from the Sher-i-Kashmir Park to Ganta Ghar (clock tower) in Lal Chowk raising slogans against the government for what they called failing the people of the state.

Under a heavy security ring, Omar marched from the park to historic clock tower amid frenzy by his supporters who raised the tempo by sloganeering against the government.

Omar picked up the threads where he had left on the 100th day of Mufti-led government lambasting the coalition for what he said duping the masses by their U turns.

‘’We sent a proposal of Rs 44,000 crore for flood victims. But deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh said Rs 3600 crore is enough. Is this what the people vote PDP for?” Omar asked amid a chanting of 'shame' from his supporters.

Omar also took a dig at the forest minister Bali Baghat’s move to evict Muslims from the forest land in Jammu. ‘’The forest land has been encroached by everybody in the state. But why only people of Bathindi, Sunjawan and Sidra are being targeted?” he questioned

Former chief minister said the previous NC-Congress government had to amend the recruitment policy after objections were raised by people. ‘’But look at PDP-BJP’s recruitment policy, will it benefit any one”,’ he said.

PDP was quick to hit back saying the National Conference has been the obstructionist in government's development agenda.

“NC has always sold out the trust and confidence of the people of Kashmir for power and luxuries. Let me remind the National Conference that Omar Abdullah’s misrule stands out for atrocities, corruption and a complete collapse of administration,” said Rafi Ahmad Mir, general secretary of PDP.

Mir said NC`s rule began with the infamous Shopian incident in which two young women lost their life in tragic circumstances and Omar Abdullah not only hushed it up but protected those who had agitated for justice.

“2010, was a nightmarish experience for the people of Jammu and Kashmir when one after the other 120 youngsters and children were killed without a single incident being investigated. Instead about 10 thousand FIRs were filed against those young people who had demanded justice”, he said.
