Police stations outside the high-security Rashtrapati Bhavan are among the 82 police stations in the city that do not have CCTVs installed in them, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has pointed out.

Police stations at Anand Vihar Railway station and 13 prominent Delhi Metro stations are also in the list compiled by the DCW, which has prompted the women's body to issue a notice to the Delhi Police seeking explanation in this regard.

The defaulters list mentions Barakhamba Road, North Avenue, South Avenue, Lodhi Road, Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Mundka and Nangloi, among others.

The commission had issued a notice to Delhi Police last December over non-installation of CCTVs in police stations despite the directive from the Supreme Court.

"I have been informed that of the 108 police stations that have CCTVs, 64 are such where they are non-functional and no CCTVs have been installed in 82 police stations," DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said.

Dependra Pathak, special commissioner of police (Operations) and Delhi Police chief spokesperson said, "CCTV installation and modernisation is one of the top agendas of Delhi Police. It is in the various stages of proposal and implementation."

Senior officers said that the North and South Avenue police stations were inaugurated in 2015 and various proposals about the force sanctioning, camera installation are still in the works.

In a notice issued to the police, Maliwal has asked for reasons for non-operational CCTVs, steps being taken to rectify the problem and an expected time-frame within which the installation process will be completed.

Gandhi Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sangam Vihar, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj (North), Delhi Cantt, Sadar Baazar, Civil Lines, Maurice Nagar, Sabzi Mandi and Sarai Rohilla are among the few areas where no CCTVs are functional in the police stations.

Among the metro stations where there are no CCTVs in police stations are Raja Garden, Janak Puri, Kashmere Gate, Rithala, Qutub Minar, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and INA.
