The NCP today accused BJP of being unable to stomach the welfare-oriented decisions taken by the Maharashtra government, and sought to know whether it has any plans to scrap Maratha and Muslim reservations for jobs and education in the state.
NCP spokesman Nawab Malik criticised BJP State President Devendra Fadanvis for his remarks that the Sena-BJP when voted to power would scrap decisions taken after the Lok Sabha elections by the Congress-NCP government.
"Fadanvis cannot digest decisions of the government taken for the welfare of poor and backward classes. Will Fadanvis scrap the Maratha and Muslim reservations?" Malik asked even as he warned BJP that the people of Maharashtra would teach the party a lesson if anything of that sort happens.
Home Minister R R Patil said Fadanvis, a contender for the post of Chief Minister, will not have to take the trouble of reviewing the state government's decisions because people of Maharashtra will not give him the chance.
Hitting out at Fadanvis, Patil said election process was yet to start and BJP should not take people of Maharashtra for granted.
"People know the financial mess the Sena-BJP government had left the state during its tenure," he said referring to the Enron issue.
Meanwhile, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna leader Raju Shetty, an ally of the Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra, has written to Maharashtra Governor to stay the decisions of the state government.
He claimed that some decisions after the Lok Sabha polls were taken to influence the voters and urged the Governor to stay such decisions as well as approve only those which were important.
Supporting Shetty's demand, Fadanvis said, after the Sena-BJP government comes to power, it would review all recent decisions of the state government and scrap them.
