State Congress President Arun Yadav has given a call for "gherao" of Vidhan Sabha on February 22 to expose the BJP's Government's "misrule", "corruption" and has personally invited top party leaders from MP to take part in the stir.
Nath and Scindia have confirmed their participation in the agitation, the party said.
"Kamal Nath would reach Bhopal to participate in the party's February 22 agitation in protest against corruption, illegal mining, scams and BJP misrule in the State. The Congress would stage a gherao of Vidhan Sabha," MP Congress Committee (MPCC) said in a statement yesterday.
However, confirmation of Nath's participation in the agitation has triggered speculation about a possible change of guard in the State Congress. Some party MLAs had last year demanded that Nath be made MP Congress President.
Nath would be attending a State Congress-organised agitation after a long gap.
"It is hard to remember when was the last time Nath took part in an agitation though he regularly visits Bhopal for party meetings. Last year, a group of MLAs, including Bala Bachchan and Tarun Bhanot, had demanded that Nath be appointed State Congress President," said a party leader.
However, the party said such decisions can't be in the realm of speculation as a proper process is followed for making appointments.
"The decision of appointing office-bearers, including the State President, is taken by the party's top leadership.
All leaders and party cadres accept these decisions," MP Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said.
Earlier, Scindia had favoured the idea of projecting a Chief Ministerial face for the 2018 Assembly elections.
The Congress is out of power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003.
