Mumbai: Dharavi school calls parents for re-admission of their wards

After the education department warned the school of strict actions against them, the school called the parents of expelled students for re-admissions.

Recently, a Dharavi based English medium school expelled 25 of its students after they cleared their senior kindergarten. The parents of these students received a call from the school after the education department warned the school of strict action.

Radha Sharma (name changed), one of the parents said, "After doing a follow-up with the education department we received a call from the school to come back and take admission. We have been asked to come in the first week of June for admission."

Another parent, Vikas Kamble (name changed) added, "We are relieved to know that our children will be given re-admission."Shaan Illahi, joint secretary, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) said, "We are very thankful to dna and the BMC's education department for their support."

The parents were shocked when they were told that their children will not be promoted to class one. Out of 73 students, 25 were expelled. According to parents the school wanted to make space for admission in class one for the 25 % quota admission of RTE.

They then approached BMC's education department along with AIMIM members and asked for help. According to Illahi, the education department warned the school of canceling their recognition if they did not re-admit these students.Prakash Charate, BMC education officer said, "The entry level of this school is from junior kindergarten. They cannot expel students and stop them from going to class one. We warned them of action and asked to take back students in school."
