The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the city crime branch on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly possessing Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 3.5 lakh. The said contraband was brought from Pune and was to be sold in Mumbai market, the police said.
The arrested person has been identified as Junaid Afzal Khan, a resident of Ravivaar Peth in Pune. According to the police, officers from the ANC received specific information that a man would be arriving in Govandi to sell a consignment of banned MD. Subsequently, a police team laid a trap near a bus stop on Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road.
"Khan was apprehended as soon as he arrived at the spot. We found 175 gram of MD on his person. Khan has been booked under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for possessing and selling drugs," said an ANC officer.
The police are now probing who supplied the contraband to Khan and if more persons were involved in this drug racket.
