Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday further clipped the wings of her one time second-in-command Mukul Roy.

In a major party reshuffle, the party removed Roy from the post of all India general secretary of TMC. Roy had seemingly fallen out with Banerjee after his interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection probing the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam and meeting with the union finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Banerjee had called for an urgent meeting on Saturday at her residence after reports of Roy’s meeting with the finance minister Arun Jaitley had surfaced. Roy had skipped this party meeting. A day after Roy met Jaitley, the party removed him from the post of Leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha.

TMC reshuffled as many as 21 posts of  members and revamped the top brass of the party on Saturday. Party secretary general, Partha Chatterjee, briefed the media after the meeting at Banerjee's residence at Kalighat, and announced the formation of the revamped top brass of the party.

Earlier, Banerjee had appointed party state unit chief Subrata Bakshi as an additional national general secretary. Roy was so far the only Trinamool national general secretary and wielded enormous power within the party organisation. Now, Bakshi will be the sole general secretary of the party.

For some time now, Roy had distanced himself from the party and missed key party meetings.
