The Pakistan terror factory seems to have spread its tentacles to the highly fortified Central Jail Srinagar.

National Investigation Agency recovered dozens of mobile phones, SIM cards, Pakistani flags, Jihadi literature and other incriminating material after they raided the premises on Monday.

Twenty teams of NIA, assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and National Security Guards (NSG) personnel carried out an extensive search inside the jail. These teams were accompanied by magistrates, witnesses and doctors. Drones were used to keep close surveillance during the operation. State-of-the-art equipment was also used to conduct thorough searches and recover any hidden material from the premises

“During the search, 25 mobile phones, some SIM cards, five SD cards, five pen drives, one iPod and a large number of incriminating documents/articles including a poster of Hizbul Mujahideen and a Pakistani flag, besides jihadi literature were seized”, said an NIA spokesman.

The search was carried out in connection with investigation relating to the arrest of Danish Gulam Lone and Sohail Ahmed Bhat by Kupwara Police. During investigation, it was found that fresh recruits of Al-Badr, a proscribed terrorist organization, were being sent across for arms training in furtherance of a conspiracy hatched inside the Jail.

“The searches started early morning and continued till late afternoon. All the barracks and the open ground were thoroughly searched with the help of well-trained teams and deep search metal detectors. A close watch was kept with the help of drones”, said the spokesman.

The searches come at a time when jail security is being completely overhauled across Jammu and Kashmir to prevent militants from regrouping and indoctrinating young prisoners within the prison.
