An MLA of ruling AIADMK (Amma) today caused a flutter resorting to a three-hour fast in neighbouring Tirupur, alleging that some officials were not cooperating for implementation of welfare schemes.

S Gunasekaran, representing Tirupur South constituency, arrived near Tirupur Kumaran Memorial at around 8 a.m and announced his decision to sit on the fast, police said.

He claimed that a section of officials were not extending support for implementing various government schemes to the people of the constituency.

As party workers and members of the public gathered at the spot and enquired about the fast, District Collector S Jayanthi rushed to the place.

After holding discussions with the MLA, she assured to look into the matter, following which Gunasekaran withdrew his stir, which lasted for nearly three hours.
