24-year-old American man Ian Grillot has been called a hero after he tried to stop the shooter who attacked two Indian engineers in a bar in Olathe, Kansas, reports NDTV.

An Indian engineer was killed and two others were injured when an American man opened fire on them after allegedly yelling "get out of my country", with the local police calling it as a "possible hate crime".

Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, working at the Garmin headquarters in Olathe, was killed in the shooting on Wednesday night, while another Indian and his colleague Alok Madasani was critically injured and was battling for life at a local hospital.

Grillot too was shot in the hand and chest and was admitted to the hospital. He is said to be out of danger.  He tried to take down the shooter after he shot a few bullets and chase him.  Grillot told the local media that he was 'incredibly lucky' to survive.

He was visited in the hospital by Alok Madasani, who survived the claim on his life. "The gentleman who survived came to meet me. His wife was five months pregnant. It is terrible to lose a friend."
