Make Henderson Brooks report on 1962 Indo-China war public: MP

A BJD member today sought declassification of the Henderson Brooks report on 1962 Indo-China war, saying it would enable people to know about the defeat and learn from it.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, BJD leader B Mahtab said even the court has ordered declassification of Nathuram Godse's statement after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, so there should not be any reason for making the Henderson Brooks report public.

"Our democracy is very vibrant and we need to declassify such materials. One such classified document is the Henderson Brooks' report on 1962 war," Mahtab said, adding that it is important to rewind the past and learn from the successes and failures.

Mahtab said an "arrogant" minister had tried to hide the document from the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

"People need to know about this report, which is known as the Himalayan Blunder," Mahtab said.

The Henderson Brooks Report was prepared by Lt Gen Henderson Brooks, listing out the causes of India's defeat.

While in opposition, the BJP had demanded declassification of Henderson Brooks report. However, after it came to power it declined to declassify thr report.

Raising another issue, Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury lauded the role of intelligence sleuths in tracking terror suspects, especially those related to ISIS.

Laxmi Narayan Yadav (BJP) sought the government's intervention into "vulgar" advertisments coming through Google.
