Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) units raided the properties belonging to former minister Chhagan Bhujbal and his family at five places in Nashik, Yeola and Manmad on Tuesday morning. At the same time, Bhujbal supporters staged a protest in front of the district collectorate, alleging that their leader was being unnecessarily targeted.

While a group of about 200 supporters led by local leaders of the party marched from the NCP office in the city to the district collectorate, the Nashik unit of ACB conducted the raids on Bhujbal's properties. The ACB was acting in pursuance of the investigation into Bhujbal's alleged misappropriation of funds in the Maharashtra Sadan case.

The ACB team reached Bhujbal's contact office on Vinchur Yeola road in Yeola at around 10.45 am on Tuesday. After reaching the office, they asked the Nashik police to provide them with police bandobast, which was given to them. Around 11 am, another team of the ACB landed at the 'Bhujbal Farm' premises off the Mumbai Agra Highway in Nashik. The ACB also raided 'Ramkund' at Manmad- the home of Bhujbal's son Pankaj, who is the former MLA from Nandgaon constituency.

The teams which comprised officers of the ACB from Mumbai and Nashik, began their search and scrutiny of documents at the office, the old residence and the new house of Chaggan Bhujbal at Bhujbal Farm. It is also understood that staff in the premises were questioned.

Earlier, around 10.30 am as planned, the supporters of Bhujbal, led by local NCP leaders Ravindra Pagar, former minister Tukaram Dighole, former MLAs of the party, MLAs Dipika Chavan, Narhari Zirwal, president of Zilla Parishad Vijayashree Chumble, Arjun Tile and others, staged a sit-in agitation in front of the collectorate and blocked one side of the old Agra road in the city. The supporters shouted slogans against the Fadnavis led BJP- Shiv Sena government and in favour of Bhujbal. Their memorandum submitted to the district collector stated that that the action and cases against their leader Chhagan Bhujbal were politically motivated. Cases have been filed against Bhujbal because he has been aggressively raising issues about the farmers and the common man in the assembly, and has thus put the government in a tight spot, the memorandum said.
