Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil told the state Assembly on Sunday that if the government does not hold Tukaram Mundhe accountable for aggravating the drought condition in Solapur due to inaction, Congress will file a public interest litigation against him. Vikhe-Patil alleged that the then district collector is responsible for the man-made drought situation.

Vikhe-Patil paid a visit to the drought-affected areas of Aachegav, Kanbas and Mandrup in Solapur district and reviewed the drought situation. He also addressed a farmers' convention. Former minister Siddharam Mhetre and district unit president of Congress Prakash Patil accompanied him on the tour.

Speaking to media persons, Vikhe-Patil alleged that Mundhe deprived the people of Solapur of government scheme benefits and did not start cattle camps by utilising standing crop of sugarcane as fodder. He also said that the villagers are complaining about the same in addition to not having employment through the employment guarantee scheme. According to Vikhe-Patil, villagers also complained of not getting adequate tankers or receiving crop insurance money. He said that it was because of Mundhe's inefficiency and callousness that the entire district is forced to witness a grave man-made drought.

Vikhe said that few works under the Jalyukta Sivaar Abhiyaan are active even though the water holding capacity is generated. He added that if the state government does not take action against Mundhe, Congress party will move court with a public interest litigation and seek justice for the people for Solapur.

Patil also criticised the policies of Devendra Fadnavis-led government and reiterated the demand for complete loan waiver for farmers. Vikhe-Patil claims that the government has decided to refuse loan waiver simply out of ego. Since there is no loan waiver, farmers are deprived of fresh loans as they were unable to repay the loans availed by them in 2013-14 and 2014-15. He opined that complete loan waiver is the only solution for bringing farmers out from the existing misery.
