Maharashtra: ASI goes on killing spree; shoots three in Daund

The person has been arrested now.

Small town of Daund in Pune district was rattled on Tuesday afternoon when an assistant sub inspector of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) posted at state reserve police force (SRPF) camp went on killing spree and shot three persons dead. He was finally nabbed by the police from Supa in Ahmednagar district when he was on the run. 

ASI Sanjay Baliram Shinde was posted in IRB in Kolhapur but since the company of IRB was facing space crunch, the company has been stationed at SRPF camp in Daundh where Shinde also stayed.Three deceased have been identified as Gopal Kaluram Shinde, Prashant Gurunath Pawar and Anil Jadhav. The incident took place at around 2 pm on Tuesday. 

According to senior police officials of Pune rural police, ASI Shinde and all three deceased are known to each other. Out of the three, Shinde killed Gopal and Prashant at Nagar Mori chowk while Anil was killed outside his house situated at Jijamatanagar area. 

A senior police officer told DNA, "On Tuesday afternoon, Shinde approached Gopal and demanded some money from him. After Gopal refused to give money, Shinde entered into argument with him and started abusing him. Gopal could not take the abuse and he slapped Shinde. Angered by the attack, Shinde took out a pistol and shot at Gopal. When Shinde was shooting at Gopal, Prashant was also present at the spot and he tried to save Gopal but Shinde shot at him too and both of them died on the spot."

"After killing both of them, Shinde headed towards Anil's house with whom he had past enmity and when he spotted Anil outside his house, he fired at him and killed him also," the officer said.  Following the triple murder in broad daylight, panic spread in Daund. Meanwhile, as news spread that after killing three people, Shinde locked himself in his house. As the news of his presence in his house spread in the town, relatives of three deceased gathered outside his house. Meanwhile, teams from Pune rural police and SRPF had also gathered at the spot to make sure that the situation does not go out of hand. 

Shinde tried to misguide police to evade arrest While, police surrounded the house of Shinde thinking that he was in the house, one of the police officer from Daund police got a call from Shinde where he informed the officer that after killing three, he was heading towards Solapur. Inspector general of police (Kolhapur range) Vishwas Nangre Patil said, "Though he told that he was heading towards Solapur, when we checked his mobile tower location, it showed that he was heading towards Ahmednagar district."

"We immediately alerted our teams and shared his location and managed to nab him from Supa area. We have recovered 9 mm pistol and two magazine from him," he said.
