A large cache of explosives and detonators was today seized from a godown in Gangeshwar Nagar area of the city, police said.

Acting on a tip off, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police seized 225 gunny bags of ammonium nitrate, 2,600 detonators, 204 gelatin rods and 1,800 meters of safety fuse wire and arrested two persons.

The SOG had launched search operation after it received information that the accused were stocking the explosives in a godown to use them in different criminal activities.

They found the explosives stashed in a truck in the godown.

"Godown owner Giriraj Sharma, a resident of Jagatpura area, and truck driver Hansraj Meena of Swai Madhopur district have been arrested. A case has been registered and further investigation is on," ADGP (ATS and SOG) Umesh Mishra said.

Inspector General of SOG, Dinesh M N said there is an inter-state gang involved in smuggling of explosive materials.

During preliminary probe, the accused have revealed names of other members of the suspected gang and they will be arrested, the IG said.

He said the matter will be investigated further.
