Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has transfered Dr Beena Khurana from the post of Director General of Health Services, days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had directed to ensure sufficient stock of medicines in government-run hospitals.

"The Lt Governor has transfered Khurana as Director General (Directorate General of Health Services) and appointed Dr Kirti Bhusan as the new director general of DGHS," said a senior government official.

DGHS also looks after the distribution of medicines in hospitals.

Earlier this month, Kejriwal had directed Chief Secretary M M Kutty to ensure there was sufficient stock of medicines in government-run hospitals.

Kejriwal's direction came after some persons complained at the Chief Minister's 'Janta Darbar' that free medicines were not being provided to patients in some of the government hospitals.

"CM has directed the Chief Secretary to resolve the issue at the earliest and if it continues, concerned officers will be held liable for insufficient stock of medicines in government hospitals," a senior government official had said.
