‘Khoon ki Holi’ at border; PM Modi, Pak must make efforts for peace, says Mehbooba Mufti

With tension escalating in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has pleaded both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan authorities to make concentrated peace efforts.
Mufti, while addressing the passing out parade of Jammu and Kashmir Police constables, said that there was battle –like situation at borders right now. ‘Hamare border pe iss waqt, khuda na khasta, ek tarah se khoon ki Holi chal rahi hai (At present, our borders are witnessing bloodshed),’ Mufti was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Appealing both PM Modi and Pakistan for turning Kashmir into a battleground, Mufti said, ‘I appeal to PM (Modi) and to Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir ko jung ka akhada mat banaiye, dosti ka pul banaiye.’

The statement comes as the death toll in the Pakistan firing for fourth consecutive day reached 11. On Sunday, Signalman Chandan Kumar Rai was killed in Mendhar sector on the Line of Control.
An army spokesman said Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of Mortars, Small arms and automatics in Mendhar sector which was retaliated strongly and effectively.
Sepoy Rai is the fourth soldier to have been killed in the last 36 hours on LoC and IB. A Border Security Force (BSF) Head Constable and a Lance Naik of the army were killed in Pakistan firing in Pakistan firing on Friday. A sepoy of the Army was killed on Saturday on LoC.
The death toll in the ceasefire violations on LoC and International Border (IB) has now climbed to 11 since Wednesday night. More than 50 people have suffered injuries and thousands of people have fled their homes
Pakistan activated entire IB and LoC extended its shelling to newer areas targeting civilians and Indian forward posts on Friday night and Saturday. Three civilians were killed when Pakistan shelled civilian areas in RS Pura and Kanachak sectors on Saturday.
