After a pregnant woman, Nimisha, from Kerala, who converted to Islam after marriage and is suspected to have joined Islamic State (IS), another girl from the state has allegedly said to have undergone forcible conversion.

A Mini Vijayan from Pangode, Thiruvananthapuram, complained to the police that her daughter Aparna, a student of Jual Education Trust in Ernakulam, was forcibly converted to Islam, reports Times of India. The girl had joined the college in 2013 and was living in a hostel nearby.

The girl was located in Kozhikode. The police took her to the high court but the girl chose to be with people of her new faith than her family. "But instead of us, Aparna said she would like to go with Sumayya, the woman who accompanied her to the court," Vijayan told the daily.

The girl is living in a religious centre at Manjeri in Malappuram and has chosen to go with the name Shahana.

"She is staying at Sathya Sarani, an institute which aims to propagate Islam among non-Muslims. Though she used to be in touch with me earlier, she went incommunicado ever since the case of Nimisha appeared in the media," Vijayan said.

The police have said that they could not help any further as the girl has chosen to live with those who converted her to Islam.

There was no comment from the police in the daily's report about whether the conversion was forcible or not.
