Under fire, Bar Association of Kathua (BAK) on Friday distanced itself from the 'Hindu Ekta Manch' and claimed that the lawyers never obstructed the Crime Branch from filling the charge sheet in the brutal rape and murder case of an eight-year-old tribal nomad girl.

The BAK delegation also met the members of Bar Council of India and apprised them about the incident and presented their side of story on Thursday evening.

Jammu and Kashmir police had lodged an FIR against the lawyers for obstructing the Crime Branch from filing the charge sheet in the court of chief judicial magistrate Kathua on April 9.

"We have never prevented or caused any obstruction for presenting the charge sheet. Neither did we have the intention of doing so nor have we done so. The scuffle broke out when local police equipped with lathis and weapons started pushing the lawyers of the court. And this scuffle was misreported by media that lawyers prevented Crime Branch from filing the charge sheet," Kirty Bhushan Mahajan, president of BAK, told DNA.

Mahajan alleged that around 150 to 200 policemen had gathered at the court premises with an agenda. "All of them (cops) suddenly appeared without being called by any authority or being requested. A wrong narrative was created and facts were twisted and misreported", he said.

Distancing from Hindu Ekta Manch, BAK president said they were never part of the outfit nor they participated in their any event. "We were never part of Hindu Ekta Manch. We had never any association with them. We neither shared any platform with them nor did they protest in the court premises. We had suspended the work on the call of Bar Association of Jammu which is our parent Bar", he said

Carrying Tricolor, Hindu Ekta Manch had taken out a march in support of the accused and demanding the CBI probe in February. On March 1, the then Forest Minister Lal Singh and Industries Minister Chander Prakash Ganga had joined the rally of Hindu Ekta Manch which triggered a political storm and ultimately cost the duo their posts.

BAK president also alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to defame and malign the lawyers of Kathua. "It is a fact that conspiracy was hatched by some persons or group of persons or organizations to defame and malign the advocates of Kathua. I would be present in the supreme court on April 26 to file the affidavit", said Mahajan.
