If the Karnataka legislature secretariat gets its way, the lawmakers will get 13-gram gold biscuits as gifts during the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Vidhana Soudha, reported Deccan Herald.

Vidhana Soudha is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka.

The secretariat has proposed to give away the expensive gifts to MLAs as well as MLCs during a function scheduled for October 25 and 26.

The report said that each gold biscuit will cost about Rs 55,000 and will be embossed with the coat of arms, the state emblem of Karnataka.

Legislative Assembly Speaker KB  Koliwad said that a proposal has been sent to the government.

“If the chief minister (Siddaramaiah) agrees, we will present the gifts,” he said. It has also been proposed silver plates worth about Rs 6,000 each to gift the secretariat staff, from the Upper and Lower Houses.

A series of events have been organised on October 25 and  26 to celebrate the occasion. President Ram Nath Kovind will commemorate the diamond jubilee of the Vidhana Soudha by addressing a special joint session of the Karnataka legislature on October 25.

The celebrations include a special discussion on the state's history, its land, water, resources and nature along with cultural programmes.

Built in a Neo-Dravidian style of architecture, the Vidhana Soudha is spread over 60 acres and houses the Legislative Assembly and Council chambers, in addition to offices of the chief minister, prominent ministers and senior government officers.
