Beware! Here's why a WhatsApp group admin was arrested

Two weeks back, a District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police had made it clear that any factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information on a social media group could result in an FIR against the group administrator.

The Murudeshwar police of Uttara Kannada district has arrested the administrator of a WhatsApp group and two other persons, for sharing morphed photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The accused administrator of 'The Balse Boys', Krishna Sannathamma Naik (30), is an auto rickshaw driver by profession and was nabbed for adding a person known to have posted the morphed photo. A photograph of Prime Minister Modi that was morphed and made to look obscene was circulated through this group.

Anand Manjunath Naik had filed a complaint in this connection in Murudeshwar police station. The police, who registered case, acted swiftly and made this arrest.

Another accused, Ganesh Naik, was also arrested, but secured bail through the court. The third accused, Balakrishna Naik, has remained elusive and the police are making efforts to arrest him.

Meanwhile, Naik who was arrested on Sunday and produced before a court in Karwar on Tuesday, was granted bail.
