Bihar's Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav kicked off his 'Samvidhan Bachao Nyaya Yatra' from Katihar district on Saturday with a scathing attack on CM Nitish Kumar and company, over "selective development" in the state.

Around the same time at the RJD headquarters in Patna, JD(U) MLA Sarfaraz Alam quit his post and party and joined Lalu Prasad Yadav's party, giving indications that he will contest the Araria Lok Sabha seat vacated by his father and RJD MP Taslimuddin's demise last year. Sarfaraz was suspended from the JD(U) two years ago following complaints that he had misbehaved with a couple on a Delhi-bound train.

"One more MLA has quit the JD(U). Just wait and see how many more will follow," Tejashwi said and added the BJP will be responsible for Nitish's political death. "Nitish will soon merge the JD(U) with the BJP. The CM's party is not in a position to contest even one seat. His so-called governance file is in the PMO… the BJP will first send him to Delhi and then make him a governor somewhere. What will his legislators do then?" he said.

Tejashwi, who will tour the length and breadth of the state in the next few months to seek "justice" for his father Lalu Prasad Yadav and highlight the "anti-poor" policies of the central and state NDA governments, said the "double-engine government" was doing nothing for the development of the poor and deprived sections in Bihar.

The RJD leader had left Patna on Friday evening, for Katihar, where he had dinner at a Mahadalit tola and discussed their problems. On Saturday, at a packed Rajender Stadium in Katihar, Tejashwi said CM Nitish had betrayed the mandate given by the people of Bihar but the public will teach him a lesson in the next election.

Lashing out at the central and state governments for "conspiring against the Yadav clan", he said, "They are doing it to harass us. The BJP leaders who want a details of my family's properties should first furnish their own particulars," he said and alleged that the BJP and RSS were trying to spread chaos in the country.

In his yatra, he also raised issues of "deteriorating law and order" and the various scams that hit Bihar recently. Tejashwi will tour Purnia, Kishanganj and Araria in the first phase of Nyaya Yatra.
