Bollywood actor Jaya Bachchan, famous for her amiable roles in movies, touched several hearts when she burst out at the ruling BJP on the issue of a youth activist announcing a Rs 11 lakh bounty on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's head.
"You can protect cows, but the women are facing atrocities," she said associating with the matter raised by Trinamool Congress member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy on threat posed to Mamata by Yogesh Varshney, a functionary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
"How dare anybody talk like this, especially against a woman? When the women are really feeling so insecure... is this what they should be promoting... is this the way they are going to protect the women of this country?" asked Jaya pointing at the treasury benches.
Jaya's retort found many takers in the House from across the Opposition as they thumped the tables in support.

"I am also a woman, I was beaten up by 17 goons of the Trinamool Congress in front of policemen. Let the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) who is also a woman answer this?" she said giving some respite to members of treasury benches.
However, Ganguly's gesticulations did not have much impact with the government beating a hasty retreat and disassociated itself with the youth leader's comments.
"We condemn this type of statement. The state government is free to take proper legal action against the person," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
In Lok Sabha too, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar condemned the bounty comment.
