The Shiv Sena on Wednesday urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take on the Karnataka government over its attempts to throttle Marathi pride in the state.

"Chief Minister Fadnavis has threatened political adversaries that he is willing to show them Bahubali part two... but first, at least show the Bahubali trailer to the Karnataka government," said an editorial on Wednesday in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna, while calling on him to visit Belgaum and reassure local Marathi speakers.

The newspaper, which has Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray as the editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as the executive editor, alleged that Baig was trying to subvert the Constitution and lashed out at him for not protesting against Islamic extremism.

Earlier, Karnataka urban development minister Roshan Baig had made a statement that the Karnataka government intends to introduce an enactment to prohibit elected representatives, including legislators from the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, which represents Marathi speakers in the border areas of Karnataka, from pronouncing the words 'Jai Maharashtra.'

Shiv Sena ministers Diwakar Raote and Dr Deepak Sawant will also participate in a protest in Karnataka's Belgaum on Thursday by Marathi-speakers who want the area to be included in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is locked in a border dispute with Karnataka over the inclusion of 765 Maharashtrian-dominated villages and towns like Belgaum in the state.

Speaking in Pandharpur, Fadnavis said the state condemned the statement and added they would also write to the Centre about this being wrong.
