IPL betting racket busted in Shahdara, engineer among 6 held

While the rest of the country was busy enjoying the IPL match between Kolkata Night Riders and Kings XI Punjab, held at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday, a Delhi Police team was busting a Rs one crore betting syndicate in Shahdara.

As many as six men, including a B Tech graduate, were arrested. Two laptops, 22 mobile phones, and two LEDs were also recovered from their possession.

The accused were identified as Manmohan Krishan alias Chunnu, Sushil Pal, Manish Kumar, Naveen Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, and Keshav, a B Tech graduate who works as a network engineer in a online shopping company in Okhla.

The police had received information that a 'satta' gang was operating from a house in the Vishwas Nagar area of Shahdara. DCP (Shahadra) Nupur Prasad said that immediately, a police team was constituted and a raid was conducted at the identified residence.

"During the raid, the accused tried to escape but were overpowered. Two laptops, two LED screens, 22 mobile phones, and other items used for betting were recovered from their possession. During their interrogation, it was further revealed that accused Manmohan Krishan alias Chunnu owned that house. Naveen and Manish helped him organise the syndicate. The arrested men confessed that they had gathered to bet on the ongoing IPL match between Kolkata Night Riders and Kings XI Punjab," Prasad said.

Meanwhile, another gambling racket was busted in the Vivek Vihar area. The four accused, identified as Ajay Verma, Pradeep Kumar, Rohit Singh, and Rajesh were arrested and Rs 44,740 were recovered from their possession.
