Delhi Police told a city court on Tuesday that its probe in the sexual harassment case allegedly involving TERI Director General R K Pachauri was in progress and samples have been sent to forensic lab in Gujarat for examination. The police submitted its status report to Metropolitan Magistrate Shivani Chauhan, saying "exhibits in the case have been sent to the forensic lab (FSL) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat for expert opinion, result of which is expected to be received by the end of September."

"Investigation of the case is in progress," the report, filed through Sub Inspector Pratibha Sharma, said.

Meanwhile, Pachauri, who was allowed to travel to China and Japan by the court for ten days from August 21, has returned to Delhi but is yet to intimate the court about it, his counsel said.

"Pachauri is back and police has been informed about it. We will intimate the court about his arrival tomorrow," his counsel Ashish Dixit said.

The court had on August 19 allowed Pachauri, who is facing sexual harassment allegations from a woman employee, to visit China and Japan to attend a global meet to discuss environmental issues from August 21 to September 1. The court had directed him to furnish two local sureties of Rs two lakh each and inform the Indian embassies in both the countries about his arrival.

In its order, the court had noted that a sessions court order of March 21 mandates Pachauri to only obtain prior permission before travelling abroad but does not impose absolute prohibition from leaving the country during pendency of probe.

The court had last month allowed Pachauri to enter his office barring the head office here and a branch in Gurgaon. Pachauri had also stepped down from United Nations' IPCC and the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change.

On February 13, an FIR was registered against Pachauri on charges of sexual harassment under IPC sections 354, 354 (a), 354(d) (molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation). TERI governing council had on July 23 appointed Dr Ajay Mathur, currently director general of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), as its Director General.
