While the BJP has set West Bengal as their next target after winning Tripura, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that her target was 'Lal Qila'.

"Some people are saying that they are targeting Bengal next. In that case, let me tell them that our target is Lal Qila," the CM said addressing a public meeting at Purulia district on Monday.

Her comments came as a reply to BJP national president Amit Shah's comments, who, after the party's impressive victory at Tripura had said that unless Bengal, Kerala and Odisha were won the party would not reach its golden era.

Mamata also said that BJP had robbed off thousands of crores of money from the common people and spent those to win elections. "This strategy of BJP will not work in Bengal because people over here cannot be purchased or can be divided by sparking communal riots," she said.

Earlier during the day while chairing an administrative meeting at Durgapur in West Burdwan district, Mamata said that youths who would be able to give specific information about trouble-mongers would receive cash award or a government job.

"I have been told that BJP and RSS people are trying to spark communal riots by putting meats at temples. Police stations should be more alert and be on the vigil against activities like these. There should also be community development committees in place to check such attempts at sensitive issues. The youths of the locality should also be vigilant and inform police and administration of any such offender. If anyone can take pictures on his mobile and gives any such specific information to the police, which will thwart such attempts, I would request the district administration to reward them with Rs 1,000. These people can also be awarded with a government job,” she said

She also said that police need to increase their vigilance during the night. “Police patrolling should be intensified at night. These activities are done at the dead of the night. Places like Masjids and temples should also be carefully guarded,” she added.
To Surajit Kar Purakayastha, director general of West Bengal Police who had accompanied her to the meeting, she said that clubs, civic volunteers and members of green police should be more engaged in these vigilant activities.

After the Tripura results had been announced, Mamata had been in talks with several leaders including Telegana chief minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao to form a united front against the BJP ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Scoffing at Mamata’s ‘Target Lal Qila’, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that day dreaming didn’t cost money so anyone was free to do so. “I can also talk about scaling the Himalayas one day but a more practicable challenge to Didi would be the Panchayat polls if she ensures that there would be a free and fair one and no party would complain of any poll-related violence,” Ghosh said on Monday.
