An irate mob protesting against the alleged rape of a school girl went on rampage at Tissa in Chamba district setting ablaze a PWD rain shelter and two kiosks, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner, Chamba, Sudesh Mokhta said that a mob gheraoed the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at Tissa and shouted slogans against the local administration, seeking justice for the rape victim.

The mob then went on rampage damaging shops, torching a PWD rain shelter and two kiosks, Mokhta, who rushed to the spot said.

He added that the situation was now under control.

Following the alleged rape of a girl by a teacher 3-4 days back, the police had registered a case at the Tissa police station and arrested the accused, an official said.

Three persons have also been arrested for allegedly manhandling the teaching staff at the government senior secondary school on July 27 over the alleged rape case.

Earlier, a mob had gheraoed the school premises and raised slogans against the staff as well as the administration demanding the arrest of the accused.

The hill state was earlier rocked by protest over another rape case in Kotkhai near Shimla. The victim in the Kotkhai case was also a school girl, according to the police.
