Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday gave a jolt to the Yogi government when it passed an order reinstating six UP Shia Wakf Board members who were removed by the BJP government.

Those who have been reinstated by the High Court included Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha member Akhtar hasan Rizvi, Syed Wali Haider (Moradabad), Afansa Zaidi (Muzaffarnagar), Syed Azeem Hussain (Bareilly), Nazmul Hasan and Alima Zaid (Both Lucknow).

After recommending a CBI inquiry into allegations of corruption in the UP Sunni and Shia Wakf Boards, the Chief Minister had removed these six members from the Shia Wakf Board on the recommendations of the Wakf Board minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary and minister of state for minority welfare Mohsin Raza about 10 days ago.

These six members, who were appointed by the erstwhile Akhilesh government, had filed a writ petition in Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court questioning the Yogi government's move to sack them without issuing any show-cause notice or seeking their explanation.

"The move to sack us was illegal and the state government has no power to dissolve the Wakf boards which are government by Central Wakf Act," charged Nazmul Hasan Rizvi. The former Cabinet minister Azam Khan had also termed the Modi government's decision to dissolve Sunni and Shia Wakf Boards as 'unconstitutional'.

The Yogi government had ordered an inquiry into allegations of Azam Khan usurping Wakf properties in his hometown Rampur for his controversial Mohammed Ali Jauhar University.

Later, on recommendations of his Wakq Minister Laxmi Narain Chowdhary, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had dissolved both the Wakf boards and recommended a CBI probe to probe corruption charges.
