The Madras High Court has directed the Kancheepuram District authorities to take steps to remove the stray pigs in Padappai to some other place.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar gave the direction recently while hearing a PIL from one Yasodha Ammal of Padappai, who submitted that the free movement of pigs were causing hardships to the public.

The bench also ordered issue of notice to government pleader Subramanian and directed him to file counter along with status report and posted the matter for further hearing to June 20.

The petitioner submitted that there were about 10000 stray pigs in Padappai and these animals were chasing public walking on the streets, causing hardships to them.

She submitted that though she had made complaint to the concerned authorities, no action was taken.
